The holiday season is upon us again! It’s the time of year where we get together with family and friends, enjoy their company, exchange gifts and laughter, and feel joyful and grateful. It’s also a time of holiday dinner parties, filled with delicious food to enjoy with our loved ones.

The only downside is that it can be tricky sticking to healthier diet choices during the holiday season. From second helpings to dessert or some extra wine, we all tend to indulge a bit over the holidays. And that’s perfectly OK!

In today’s post, I’m sharing 5 tips for healthy holiday eating so that you can stay on track with your health goals and still enjoy this special time of year.

1. Bring or serve a healthy dish at family gatherings

Whether you’re hosting a Christmas dinner or are a guest at someone’s dinner party, sharing a healthy dish with others is a great way to bring a nourishing meal option to the table! The best thing is that cooking healthy doesn’t have to be complicated and there are plenty of recipes to try that are sure to please everyone.

2. Everything in moderation

As I mention in my free email course “Clean Up Your Diet”, what you do/eat on a regular basis is far more important than what you do/eat every once in a while. In other words, indulging a bit during the holiday season is not the end of the world! As long as you are consistent with eating nourishing whole foods more often than not throughout the year, indulging a bit over the holiday season is perfectly fine. The important thing is that you don’t let a bit of holiday indulgence turn into a regular habit.

3. Enjoy your time with family and friends (focus less on food)

The holidays are more than just getting together for dinner – it’s about spending time with loved ones and enjoying each other’s company. Stress less over food and instead be present in the moment. Enjoy the company of the people you don’t see very often and take this time to relax and completely get into the holiday spirit.

4. Eat guilt-free: If you overindulge, forgive yourself and move forward

One of the most important things to remember over the holiday season is to never let a diet slip-up make you feel guilty!! If you regret having one too many cookies or that extra cocktail drink, the best thing for you to do is to forgive yourself and move forward. Let it motivate you to get back into your regular routine!

5. Drink this detox smoothie the next day:

Your digestive system will most likely be working a bit of overtime during the holidays – so to help your body detoxify, drink this amazing detox smoothie! It features delicious in-season citrus fruits and gives you a boost of antioxidants and also helps to support the liver (the main detox organ).
