I have a confession to make. I didn’t always enjoy cooking. In fact, I really didn’t like it at all! The most I considered myself skilled at was baking, and even then it was mainly baking chocolate chip cookies (they were really good though).
I remember one of the first meals I made was some (baked) breaded chicken breast… needless to say that turned out REALLY dry. I’ve come a long way since then though. My first successful dish was a really awesome vegetarian chili. I still make it to this day!
These days, I really enjoy making homemade meals. There’s just something about preparing your own food from scratch that makes it so special, not to mention delicious (most of the time, ha!). The process of chopping up veggies and whatever other ingredients is kind of therapeutic in a way, and seeing it all come together for your meal makes it that much more enjoyable! Not to mention the health benefits of knowing exactly what’s going in your food, as well as the quality of the ingredients.
Despite all that, I do feel the laziness of cooking every now and then. Sometimes, you just don’t feel like making anything and you wish your meal could just magically appear in front of you. Or sometimes you just can’t think of anything to cook that you actually feel like eating.
So what’s a person to do when they’re in this situation?
I’m glad you asked because today I’ve got some tips for you to make cooking fun and easy!
1. Listen to music
Sometimes all we need for a little cooking motivation is to blast out those tunes and get ourselves into the groove! You can have tons of fun preparing your meal by listening to your favourite upbeat music. You can even make a playlist of songs specifically for cooking! Listening to music while you’re cooking can be quite relaxing and fun. It also takes your mind off of the “boring” or “lazy” feeling you may have towards the task. Before you know it, you’ll be eating a delicious, healthy dish that you actually enjoyed making!
2. Cooking with friends or family
Invite some company over and prepare a meal together! Cooking with other people is great way to be motivated to create a delicious dinner from scratch. Not only do you get to chat with your friends and family, but you can also divvy up the tasks between people. This way, you have way less work to do than if you were cooking by yourself. One person washes the veggies, the other chops them, another is in charge of cleaning, etc. The best part is that at the end you get to enjoy a home cooked meal with the people you love!
3. Plan your meals
I looove meal planning! It makes life so much easier in a number of ways. It gets you to brainstorm all of your meal ideas for the week in one go, so you don’t have to spend time every single day racking your brain for a dinner idea. Another great thing about meal planning is that it makes grocery shopping a lot simpler because you’ll know exactly what ingredients you need for the week based on the meals you’ve planned. Seriously, meal planning makes the cooking process super easy.

4. Make extra servings
Another great tip to make cooking really easy is to prepare extra servings. It takes way less effort to chop up a few extra ingredients to add more volume to the dish you’re preparing rather than making that same dish all over again from scratch.
Having those extra servings allows you to have an easily reheatable lunch the next day, or you can freeze those servings and have a quick go-to meal some other time when you don’t feel like cooking! All you need to do is thaw and reheat. How easy is that?
